Happy Birthday to me...

July 24th was my 29th plus 8th birthday. Below are some pictures from the weekend...

The weekend started Wednesday night with a ding dong ditch courtesy of Jenna and Rachael. Unfortunately, our doorbell does not reach my ears when I am upstairs in the bonus room so they had to call me to tell me to answer the door after trying to ring the doorbell and run three times. The front porch was decorated with streamers and hearts. It was a fun start to my birthday and I loved it. The next day I went to work in LA and had a birthday cake with co-workers and received a lotto ticket - maybe it will be a winner. :)

On Friday we left for an overnight trip to Solvang. I haven't been to Central California - along the coast - for awhile and had forgotten how beautiful it is. It also is so different from SoCal that it feels like a different state.

On Saturday we drove a little further up the coast to Moro Bay. We ate lunch there. This picture is Jeremy on the pier where we ate.

On Saturday we also stopped by a miniature horse farm. Jeremy loved it. Miniature horses can be bought as backyard pets for a price of 3k-6k. The designer dog is looking better and better.

It was a fun weekend. I love these little adventures with my family.

I fell in love...

... with General Conference while serving my mission. Before then it had always been 8 hours of required attendance or at least 4 hours on Sunday. On my mission General Conference was a welcome break from the hard work of proselyting. I am grateful I had that experience and time to learn to love our conference seasons and the spiritual renewal they can bring.

I can't remember when I started but sometime after my mission I began to make a consistent effort to read the conference issue of the Ensign every time it came out. Even when I miss a conference session (which happens more often than I care to admit - those Saturday sessions are really hard) I can still hear the great words of council and each time there is at least one message that speaks to my heart or answers a prayer.

I have just finished the April 2008 General Conference Ensign issue and am now re-reading the things I underlined. On my blog - off to the right - I thought I would share some quotes and why they touched me or spoke to an area of my life I would like to improve. I'll change them every couple of days or when I remember...
